Valoisa ja vetovoimainen kaupunki seminar at Oulu

Valoisa ja vetovoimainen kaupunki seminar assembles together a group of lighting and urban development professionals to discuss whether developments in urban lighting can add to the attractive value of cities. New info is also provided about the possibilities of intelligent and adaptive urban lighting.

The Adaptive Urban Lighting team will be presenting the research project and its results.

Digital Design in Sustainable Urbanism course started for semester 2013-14

Digital Design in Sustainable Urbanism course started for semester 2013-14

The Digital Design in Sustainable Urbanism course has now begun at the Tampere University of Technology, Tampere School of Architecture, Finland. The course goes on for 7 consecutive weeks and is taught by architect Toni Österlund and tutored by architecture student Lisa Voigtländer. The course is directed towards international Master’s students of 4th-5th year.

During this course the students will learn to build parametric models of urban environment and critically test different sustainability parameters appropriate in different kind of urban planning and design situations. The students will learn to connect geometric elements with external design and environmental parameters in databases. On this course various digital design and analysis methods are taught at the scale of urban planning and design. Methods are based on learning basic parametric design tools (Grasshopper). Special focus is set on exploring the design principles of sustainability, which are sought, tested and applied on different urban scales from individual city blocks to regional systems.

Digital Design & Research – workshop13

Digital Design & Research – workshop13

The Digital Design & Research – workshop13 focuses on the new possibilities that algorithmic design methods and parametric modeling offer for architectural design. The workshop is organized as a collaboration between Arkkitehtuurin osasto – Department of Architecture, Oulunts of Architecture, Mathematical Sciences and Mechanical Engineering (structural engineering and construction technology).

During the workshop, we will explore and test out new methods, forms and structures that the digital design tools offer. These methods will be tested and developed through different exercises. The digital design platform of this workshop will be Rhinoceros 3D-modeling software and its parametric design plugin Grasshopper.

The workshop is organized by students and architects within the Digital Design & Research community. Responsible teacher of the course is architect Toni Österlund.

Enrolment to the courses is through WebOodi, seating is limited. Course is taught in English.
